The Before and After School Programs provide support to families with children in Kindergarten to Grade 6 by offering supervised activities that support the interests, skills and abilities of the children.

The Before and After School Program Provider is responsible for

  • The developmental needs and interests of each child in care.
  • Planning according to the philosophy of Macaulay Tree House

  • Encouraging the growth of a warm, loving, nurturing environment, and treating each child with dignity and respect, encouraging positive self-esteem through day-to-day interaction.
  • Informing parents of their child’s progress regarding the activities that they participate in.
  • Providing positive evaluation to all students.
  • Attending regular staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Arranging and implementing, with the School Age Program Supervisor, age-appropriate educational outings to promote community awareness.

Qualifications

  • Valid First Aid and Level C CPR Certificate.
  • The successful candidate must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate to both children and adults.

Description

The Registered ECE shall give first priority to the developmental needs and interests of each child in care. Plan according to the philosophy of MTH. Gear the program to the needs of the individual child with concerns for his/her interests in learning. Encourage the growth of a warm, loving, nurturing environment and treat each child with dignity and respect, encouraging positive self-esteem through day to day interaction. Inform parents of their child’s progress regarding the activities that they participate in. Provide positive evaluation to all students. Attend regular staff meetings and other meetings as required. Complete paperwork necessary to promote communication with parents as needed. Promote and encourage growth of self-help skills in the areas of eating, toileting, dressing and socializing. Act as a liaison between MTH staff and parents. Assist in ordering of equipment and supplies. Arrange and implement age appropriate educational outings to promote community awareness. Housekeeping duties as required to maintain program – cleaning the room, disinfecting toys, setting up and putting away of snack/lunch area and setting up different play areas.

General Accountability

The person is responsible for planning and implementing a quality program for children aged three months to four years. Each Teacher shall strive to adopt professional attitudes and behaviors in their work as a model and teacher of young children. The work shall provide a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment, showing sensitivity to the individual needs of young children in all aspects of development. This person will use the “How Does Learning Happen” document to guide their teaching strategies, while viewing the children as competent, capable curious individuals who are rich in potential.

Qualifications

The applicant selected for this position must;

  • Be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children.
  •  Have obtained their ECE Diploma or Equivalency.
  •  Hold a valid First Aid and Level C CPR Certificate
  • Provide a Vulnerable Sector Check through OPP.
  •  Be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate to both children and adults.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Supervise, guide and assist children in daily activities.
  • Document necessary information pertinent to each child.
  • Ensure activities adhere to the Child Care and Early Years Act.
  • Give first priority to the developmental needs and interests of each child in care, as well as his/her specific medical and health needs.

The Work shall provide a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment showing sensitivity to the individual needs of young children in all aspects of development. The Teaching Assistant position requires the applicant to strengthen the quality of the program and ensure high quality experiences that lead to positive outcomes in relation to the children’s learning, development, health and well-being.

Specific Responsibilities

  • The Teaching Assistant shall
  • Give first priority to the developmental needs and interests of each child in care, as well as their specific medical, health and emotional needs.
  • Plan with the ECE staff by following the guidelines of Assessment for Quality Improvement check. Also to help plan for and create positive learning environments and experiences in which each child’s learning and development will be supported.
  • Encourage the growth of a warm, loving nurturing environment and treat each child with dignity and respect encouraging positive self-esteem through day to day interaction.
    Provides input into child assessment process.
  • Provide positive, supportive assistance, supervision and guidance to students, supply teachers and volunteers as directed.
    Attend monthly staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Promote and encourage growth of self-help skills in the areas of eating, toileting, dressing and socializing.
  • Assist in ordering equipment and supplies.
  • Complete paperwork necessary to promote communication with parents via charts, displays and children’s creative endeavors.
  • Housekeeping duties as required to maintain program – cleaning the room (sweeping and vacuuming), disinfecting toys and washrooms, setting up and putting away of lunchroom and sleep room, setting up different play centres.
  • Assist in arranging outings and class trips.
  • Encourage the children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self-regulate.
  • Support learning through children’s exploration, play and inquiry.
  • Will foster the engagement of ongoing communication with families about the program and their child’s daily activities and development. By informing parents of general progress of the child, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Expectations

The applicant selected for this position must have had sufficient experience working with young children, and be able to meet the requirements of the licensing agency. This applicant must also be a sensitive and mature individual who can relate to both children and adults.

General Accountability

The Cleaner will be responsible for keeping the building in a clean and orderly condition, and will perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, vacuuming rugs, cleaning and stocking restrooms, washing walls, glass and removing garbage and recycling. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of the need for repairs.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Performs general cleanup of all classrooms and office facilities daily.
  • Performs weekly cleaning & disinfecting throughout facility including shelving, cots, chairs and tables garbage and recycling containers
  • Sweeps, mops, polishes, refinishes resilient floors, vacuums carpeted areas, moving furniture to clean underneath weekly.
  • Dumps garbage and recycle bins.
  • Performs all cleaning aspects of halls, offices, classrooms, restrooms, staff room as well as washes walls, windows, furniture and window coverings.
  • Launder all washcloths, bibs, bedding, plush toys, dress up clothes and other items as needed.

General Accountability

This position is responsible for the planning, ordering and preparation of all foods (1 meal and 2 snacks per day) at the Day Nursery according to the Day Nurseries Act, MTH policies, children food restrictions and other regulations. Other food preparation is for our school age programs (1 snack per day). The cook is also required to maintain a clean and orderly kitchen at all times.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Ensure all menu items are prepared and served according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • With the other cook and executive director’s assistance prepare menus for the centre taking into account all allergies and exceptions.
  • Adhere to all ministry and health unit rules and regulations.
  • Ensure the quality of meals in regards to taste, presentation and dietary requirements established by the executive director.
  • Ensure quality and safety of food by performing standard and any additional sanitary measures including sweeping of the floors, cleaning of surfaces, as well as proper covering and storage of food items according to standards and procedures.
  • Work at efficient and consistent pace.
  • Ensure timely preparation of all meals.
  • Ensure that the correct quantities are prepared to meet daily needs.
  • Utilize kitchen equipment during food preparation.
  • Stay productive at all times and prepare for future needs as time allows.

Requirements

  • Professional diploma or food services management experience required.

  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for serving food, principles of sanitation, and principles of safe food handling required.
